A few bits of advice to drivers in Edinburgh.

  • It is winter. This winter there is a lot of snow and ice. Use winter tyres or don't drive. I realize there is not always snow and ice in Edinburgh during winter, but this year we've had it for weeks already. Adapt before you kill someone.
  • When you brake on ice, it will take a lot longer to stop. Drive slower and brake earlier.
  • Just because the temperature rises above the freezing point ice does not get less slippery. In fact, melting ice is even more slippery.
  • Get a shovel and a bag of sand and keep them in your trunk.
  • You sit in a warm, comfy car. Pedestrians are out in the cold, wind, rain. Have pity and don't make them wait unnecessarily.
  • Also, don't drive over pedestrians, even though hospitals are warm and comfy, just like cars.
