Sort out plastics, glass, paper, soft drink cans and cardboard to different bags and throw on a street! Yes, it is the right way to do it here. You have to deliver waste bags on street at specific day and time. Luckily, people remember to deliver bags on the same day, once a week, so there is not trash on streets all the time. Comparing handling waste in big apartment buildings:
| Finland | NZ | |
|---|---|---|
| lot of instructions | not clear what, how, when collecting waste | |
| trash collected as often as needed | trash collected once a week | |
| containers next to houses | leave plastic bags to street | |
| biowaste often separated | food waste disposal unit at your household | |
| part of rent or taxes | part of rent or taxes |
But drinking bottles and cans, for example soft drinks, are collected same way so there is no money deposit like in Finland. Recycling metal is difficult, we don't now yet, where to deliver it. One positive notice about recycling, second-hand clothes are fashion, sold in second-hand boutiques. There is also a fashion shop, where you can deliver your personal clothes for selling - you get 50% of money, if they manage to sell it. Online you can trade clothes and other stuff, after trying to find a same size buddy. Everything else from household is going to mixed waste unit, in plastic bags, located outside of building.
